hey guys finally got my thunderbird!!
It came in dropped tuning, a whole step down, and i got fresh strings, can someone tell me the best way to set it up for standard tuning? ie neck adjusting, and bridge (it has abadass bridge)

Okay, so i've been thinking bout this for a while but, i might go chrome on my goth bass. but for now i'll just keep it all stock for now and let the flat turn to matte more then mod the thing like crazy. I'm gonna get a opti-grab type thing and paint in red-ish/chrome. The stock pups aren't good for recording tracks. Playing live is one thing, in studio is another.

okay so i'm getting a bit of chrome rage but it might not last long. So far I'm getting a chrome opti-grab thing for my bass and adding a bit of red to it.
Now for pickups, but only in the future shall i change the stocks, which is better: thunderbuckers or mike lull pups?

Never even considered a T-bird. Grew up with my dad playing a mid 70's Jazz, but played a EpiBird at GC one day and fell in love with the look and the feel.
Got online and found the silverburst and the hunt was on.

Is that huge headstock the same size as a 63-64 Gibson T Bird? Or bigger?

I don't have a '60s 'Bird to compare it with Rob, but alongside a '76 it would seem to be bigger - hard to belive!

It sounds like it is a really great bass, but I think it's a deal breaker for me. Bummer.

I have no experience with either pickup apart from sound clips. I think both sound great and I don't think you would be making a bad choice to buy either one. There is a big price difference between them tho. That would have to be a major factor for most people I think. It all comes down to how much you can afford to spend on your project. I'm thinking seriously about selling my set of black TB plus pickups and my last 70's chrome pickup cover and ring to buy a Thunderbucker 66 or Max to install in my Bach.

On this particular bass the headstock' size really does make it head for the floor, (The '89's is small enough, and the rest of the bass heavy enough so it's not an issue) what makes it tolerable for me is that it's light and my "normal" right hand playing postion seems to counteract it.
I've been playing it a lot, - reheased it with the band last week and it'll go to our St. Patrick's Day show. It's a cool bass, a little tighter and darker and less midrange than some of my other 'Birds.

They Burney headstock is definitely larger than my '64 II or '65 IV Gibsons. The '76 Reissue series have the same size headstock as the '60s Reverses.

Lulls are based on the milder 1963 spec Thunderbird pickups. It's a great sound that fits in many mixes.
ThunderBuckers are available in 3 variations, '63 spec (similar to Lull), hotter '66 spec as used in the later Non Reverse Thunderbirds and MAX, overwound with the maximum possible copper wire you can put on a bobbin (every ThunderBucker pickup has a minimum of 2 miles of wire) and the hottest spec Alnico magnets. The more wire and hotter the magnets the higher the output. The EX5 series is available for 5 string basses in the same flavors.
The price differential between ThunderBuckers and Lulls is largely due to the fact Lull is a reseller. ThunderBuckers are made entirely by Steve Soar, including covers, rings, winding and testing.
I love the sound of original Gibson pickups and asked Steve, an electrical engineer/guitar player with 40 years experience building amps and electronics to attempt to clone them. Being a mechanical engineer, for good measure he designed and built the tooling to make the covers.
