Thunderbird Club

Not the cover for the pickup itself, but rather the cover over the pickup, like on old Fenders.

Edit: @TBird1958 beat me to it.

I thought the new Sunn folks indicated they would look at providing vintage parts.

Last I heard, they are not going to be able to provide the Tolex due to licensing, I assume with Fender. At least not for a while. Grill cloth, the later style is jsut the same as Fender, and the old style, I've been working on sourcing for the better part of a decade. It remains to be seen what the new Sunn comes up with, I haven't seen any indication they have a source for it, but I'd love to be wrong.

Hmmm... I usually focus on fabricating motorcycle parts but maybe it would be worth tracking down an original to make press stamp from.

I was thinking of looking into having some made by a local metal shop, but have to get an example first, or at least a drawing/pattern first. @godofthunder59 used to have them made by a local metal shop, I believe.

This coming Saturday nights' two set set-lists at the Baltic Kiss in Point Richmond across the Bay Bridge. We have an opening band to launch the night.

Coral Deluxe Bass - ready for duty!

I put a Tusq on the BaCH in place of the el cheapo plastic one. It made an audible difference for the better.

People underestimate the nut material as a tone influencer - bone, tusq, ebony, brass, rockwood... anything but plastic.

Then there is composite; ebony/brass, rockwood/brass... "works too also" as Mike might say... ;)

He wants what's covering the neck pickup, while most don't use them on old Birds, they are very hard to find and expensive when you do............Just the one on this bass was easily $200 when I bought it more than 10 years ago.

Yeah those wouldn't be hard to replicate, I would just need accurate measurements to get all the radius right. My cost on chrome has shot up since COVID though. I'll start watching for one.

It's been a minute since I've been on TB, much less in the Club. I still have my piece of crap Used To Be A Goth but it's been lounging in the closet. A couple days ago, on my birthday, I stopped by Guitar Center, fully expecting to be disappointed by the selection again...which is sad, because this Nashville, the alleged Music City. But there on the wall was a green metal flake Dingwall D-Roc Standard 4. It was love at first sight, and it played like buttah. I plugged into a MarkBass 10" combo because it already had a cord in it. I don't like MarkBass at all, but the bass sounded amazing in every pick up selector position. But it was a lot of money, so I decided to think about it. There was dust on the pickups and the bridge, so I figured they had it a while. So I went over to my drummer's house and told him. He tried to pull it up online but it was gone. Somebody bought it. But dammit, I couldn't get it out of my head. So now I have a color shift blue/purple D-Roc coming on Monday. Of course, my band with the new line up has our first show on the following Saturday. A passive D-Roc with fanned frets and a TBird-adjacent shape is almost exactly like a Squier Contemporary Active Precision. What could possibly go wrong?
Welcome back Haji and happy birthday!

Happy BD and congrats.

Yeah well, pretty much everything could go wrong. But let's not go there.

If I'm ever down that way one evening I'll have to see you you have a gig. We visit at times but haven't spent the night since pre-covid.

Sure, i'd love a number. Here is my newly repaired 2023 Epiphone! It's a bit chilly and foggy this morning, I'll have to get some beauty shots on a more dramatic sunrise.

Cool pic. Love the non-city setting too. Reminds of the late in-law's farm.

(The only way snow generally looks good for me is somebody else's area! Where ever you are, keep the snow and cold there please.)

VPs are great basses. IMO best "Gibson" thunderbird since the 60s.

Get that bass indoors!

It was only a minute lol.

Yeah, I'm from Vegas and hate the cold. My wife really wanted to move back to Colorado in 2020 so I'm up here with the snow. Give me 110 degrees anytime.

Is that Black Forest CO?

Yep.

Cool you guys are up there on a Saturday. Hopefully you’ll have a good turnout. Meanwhile I’ll be at Thee Parkside trying not to offend the sound girl. (That is what she prefers to be referred to, right?).
