Thunderbird Club

Thunderbirds have ruined me for most other basses. My NBD is a bit disappointing with my Epiphone Embassy. Love the pickups in it though.

I can walk into a bass shop and have a great time looking as I'm pretty much immune to most basses............My loves are Thunderbirds and Gibsons.

Does that also apply to other 'birds such as the Spector Legend 4x? That's DEFINITELY on my gas list.

I also like the Mike Lull T4. I just don't know if I like it for $4,000.

I'm not really jonesing for Spector, there are a couple of 'HO Birds that I wouldn't mind having at this point, a long time ago ESP's Navigator series included a 7enderbird, and and Epiphone Elitist would be pretty cool. Re the T4 used ones are around too, not cheap tho.

I'm going to save myself $3400 and just get an Epiphone Vintage Pro T Bird.
Very wise word. I still really like the Spector Legend 4X, but I'm gonna wanna try one before buying it. I love the feel and sound of my Epiphone, but I may hate the feel and sound of the Spector. I don't want want to pay $800 for wall art.

Nothing wrong with the bass at all. It's just not all that comfortable to play. Neck is too chunky. I prefer those J bass necks. Wider necks need to be fairly thin for me to play them comfortably.
Fair enough, it does have a 60s rounded neck profile. Though, I did play a Kay bass from the 60s and it literally was like the thick end of a baseball bat!! Sorry it didn't fit you well.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a Lull T Bird. Just too rich for my blood for jamming in my little home music room!

Pardon my ignorance, who is that?

No worries. As you know by now, it is Overend Watts. The first time I saw that pic, I wasn't even playing yet - probably 1974-75. I was in the local library, looking through their voluminous section on rock music, which totaled one book. It was a UK publication called Pop Today, and there were lots of pics of Alice, Slade, Mott, Queen, etc. That pic just jumped out at me and I never forgot it. The more musically aware I became, the more I kept noticing Thunderbirds. I started taking bass lessons a year or so later, and in '79 I got my first Thunderbird - a black Bicentennial, which I still own. I recently found a copy of that book on eBay, BTW.
