Music can be made in many, many ways in tacts so obtuse it initially seems like dissonance. When I was a late teen already exposed to (and loving) late-60's Hendrix, Cream, Vanilla Fudge and Led Zeppelin, when I first heard Bitches Brew (Miles Davis) - it was like listening to something from Mars. It took many listens to finally 'hear' what I was listening to. The catchy ear-candy that hooks from first listen is one thing, but music that takes a while to sink in is usually the music that makes to deepest connection.

Speaking of Captain Beefheart, a hippie cousin exposed me to him when I was a young kid, so I don’t consider him an outcast at all. Been listening to his stuff for fifty years. Too bad there isn’t more of it.

That’s a great observation! I can think of quite a few artists I just didn’t get the first few times I heard em. Some artists require that we learn to listen ‘differently.’

I was into Sonic Youth years ago, and later I started hearing their influence on radio rock.

You guys are talking about influances, this one has played and ayed and played man times. So many i. Fact that I had to buy the cassette twice then when I switched to CD’s I nought that too. Its jazz, im gonna have to get the cd back in my truck.

That oughtta open up a can of worms. It seems just about everyone has their own preference. Yer gonna get asked 'what sound are you looking to achieve?, what "feels" good to you?, what's your budget? ad nauseum. I like EB Cobalt Flats(which doesn't answer your question at all) They give me the desired amounts of depth and 'klank' w/o chewing up my fingers. Good luck sorting out the info and congrats on joining our merry band of misfits.;):thumbsup:
