Thunderbird Club

Michael Schenker Fest was great. For a guy that starts collecting a state pension in the next year, he has a lot of energy - 3 hours non-stop. And looks like he is loving every second of it. Played the hits he was involved in from UFO, Scorpions, and his solo efforts. For anyone who loved that 80s/90s hard rock guitar hero rock, it is highly recommended (because, really, how much longer has this guy got?). Of the singers (he brought 4 singers on the tour, one for each of the eras covered), Robin McAuley can still belt out the songs like he did in the 90s; that guy should have had a bigger career.

You might note where the rear strap button is, way up on the back of the bass. Makes all the difference- that strap button placement brings the whole bass, and the top of the neck (the 'Money' position), right to me. Left hand issue has been practically addressed and solved. It's taken me years, lol, to nail that down. Looks a little 'odd' perhaps, to a keen eye, but it's very comfortable. I was never one for style (hat... :))

Of interest - can anyone tell me the neck pocket dimensions, and in your experience is it only T-Bird necks that fit without any pocket work (I don’t mind doing some)

I'm happy to add you to the club and will bring the list forward later today.

Here's a pic of a quasi 7enderbird I made using a beater lefty neck that I shaved down to fit the Epi pocket, I don't own this bass anymore (except the PG, I kept that), I'm thinking I might need to put another one together.

The raised center section is a separate piece glued to the body. (purely aesthetic) Not sure why it's coming apart or what caused it, but the minimal fix is getting wood-glue (Titebond) as far in the separated section as possible and clamping it. If you don't have clamps weighing it with something heavy. (stack of books or whatever). Make sure you wipe away the excess glue and once it cures a line of satin black paint will make it mostly disappear. Using enamel (thinner based paint) the closest match is a blend of flat and satin which can both be bought in pint-sized cans (Rustolium) as satin alone will be shinier than the finish on the body.

Thanks for that, good info - I done some body repairs before and have a few clamps so hopefully ok

When I saw them at Berklee last year, Graham Bonnet absolutely blew everyone out of the water. I'd been a fan of his since I first heard Alcatrazz in the mid 1980's but never got to see him live until 2018. For a gentleman that had just hit 70 years old, that man can SING.
