Thunderbird Club

It's lovely! I wish I could press the like button many more times. That's the way a 'Burst Thunderbird should look!

Thanks. Very happy with how it looks and sounds.
Body has a nice grain in it too!
This older pic shows it up better.

Have you pumped the ser.# through the guitardaterproject website? I'd be interested if the date is that of a '76 since you said it was originally bought in '78 and only the '76's had the "76" on the Bicentennial TBird emblem.

At least that's what I believe to be true though Gibson may have slapped the "76" PG on later models to use up stock...

It also could have been NOS at the time. A couple years isn't that long for an instrument to hang around a shop before it gets properly adopted.

Thanks for that Larry V. Just used the serial number dater and it says it was made at the Kalamazoo Or Nashville Plant, USA in 1976.

The original certification says it was purchased by the shop in Oct 1977 and sold to the original owner in Jan 1978 for $1305.

Gibson used them until they were gone. Both my '77s had Bi Birds...and there were no white ones shipped until June of that year AFAIK. I bought the first white one the day it arrived at Betnun's Music in Hollyweird. The singer in the band I was in worked there and called me when the shipment came in, I had a black one on layaway and immediately switched my order. That's not to say Jellis78s isn't a '76, though I believe the early cases had a pink lining.

That's in beautiful condition, congratulations!
I'd echo Carlo's comments about the PG and the '76 logo, I have two '77s and the both have them. Is the s/n a decal or stamped into the wood?

Am I correct in thinking that the '76 through the '79 model years all had the Bicentennial 'Bird but only the '76 and a some of the '77's had the "76" in the TBird emblem's body?
