Why Gibson never did this simple fix is beyond me. I had a T-bird and my left arm got real tired real quick.

All the reissue's from 1989 until now, have the strap button in the "improved" position.

If you wear the Thunderbird at waist height like John Entwistle did, you don't get neck dive, in fact the upper horn turns out to be a very comfortable arm rest. Very ergonomic indeed.
