i Have narowed my head search down to these two heads?¨t jut not sure. i really like boomey, punchy lows i have a LMII and run it through an ashdown abm410h and it seems to lack a lot of character i could be using the wrong settings but the cab has to go to. what do you all think?

I'm not familiar with your cab, so don't know if that's part of the problem or not.

I own both, and as I've posted a few times, I can get the LMII to sound VERY similar to the TF, but not the other way around.

The LMII sounds wonderful to me virtually flat. Try the head with both filters engaged at around 8 o'clock or no more than 9 o'clock. That setting has provided a punchy tone with plenty of low end extension and nice upper treble extension with no harshness through every cab I've tried that head through.

The LMII will approach the TF 'flat' setting with the VLE at about 10 o'clock, the VPF almost off, the bass dialed back to around 11 o'clock, and the low mid just bumped up a touch. Not exactly of course, but it will give you a feel for the more mid punch, slightly compressed low end and 'bright but no sizzle' tone of the TF. The TF sounds great for what it does, and has wonderful build quality.

I find the LMII and TF about the same regarding clean volume, with the LMII having slight advantage to my ear. Of course, there's a 750 watt TF coming out, but that will the almost three times the cost of the LMII.

IMO.

Edit: Both the LMII and TF volume and tone are greatly improved running at 4ohms versus 8 if you have a large cab like a 410... more open, louder, punchier to my ear.

I've had both, but returned the TF550. I still have two LMII's. :D I echo what Ken (Kjung) said; you can approximate the TF tone on an LMII.

What I did not like about the TF is the inherent midrange tone is always there. (Great if you like it, and it punches and cuts well in a band mix like nobody's business) But I could never attain the lows I wanted on TF, and they are there just perfectly on the LMII.

Plus, you have 60 days to return the LMII if you don't like it. I think TF offers a 10 day trial. The LMII costs half that of the TF.

All that said, the LMII is just a no brainer to me. (IME/IMHO)

Intersting how there are so many opinions on the various amps out today. But remember one better than the other is very and ultimately subjective so I would try both and than make your own opinion.
I can tell you the newer Thunderfunk will impress many. I have the new board in mine and i can tell you the definition is amazing. So when the 750's come out with this board it will be a good choice for those who want what Thunderfunk has to offer regardinging its tone. It still has its signature sound but its cleaner and cuts through the mix even more now.
Its also more smoother sounding. I hear every note clearer and cleaner and i always thought the TF accomplished that before. But better now. I am very impressed with it.

I love my Combo Head (LMII in a combo) with my CMD 102P and my 104HF cab. It gives me 6 Markbass 10s at 4 ohms and this rig absolutely spanks. I think the Markbass cabs are matched very well to the heads, and I really don't know why people don't put more stock in Markbass cabs. I think the cabs' design is punchier and more attractive aesthetically than anyone on the market, but that's a personal observation. I discovered the Markbass gear by accident before I ever got on talkbass and heard the hype, and I was blown away the first time I heard this rig. I put the combo on layaway the day I heard it, and I 'd never heard of Markbass before. It just exudes quality in every note and every time I look at it, and the prices are unbelievable.
