Time limit on editing posts

I've noticed that on some of my older posts (months ago) that I no longer have the ability to go in and edit the post for updates. Is there anyway around this? I'd like to do a thread about the longevity of a certain product and would like to have people be able to come in months/years later and update their original post instead of adding a new post, just to keep things clean. Is this possible or am I just nuts:D

BTW, telling someone to get off the crack is kind of rude... I know that guy, and he's very cool, and very nice!

Anyways, I am not familiar with vBulletin, but it seems very versatile, and it would probably be possible. Though a mod could do it just about anytime, I would think.

Hey thanks trev, but I don't think earl meant any harm. I did ask if I was nuts ;)
I'm not sure if I'll do the thread or not although it might be interesting to see how long a certain product will last that has been given a label as being cheap and not worthy. Several people here at TB own this brand and it would be cool to get a track record as far as longevity with a good number of people involved. Ok, back to the crack pipe:p

I recently noticed this as well. Perhaps it's something in the last update/maintainence that was done. Not sure if it was intentional or not. Probably just wanted to keep all those "KING" posts from being corrected. Maybe Paul or one of the mods can shed some light on this. And I'm already off the crack!!:)

not speaking officially of course....

but i believe a time limit was set in in order to prevent editing should problrms arise in a thread.

e.g. two members get in a long debate that eventually gets out of hand. one person could go back and edit all their posts to make it look like they weren't the aggressor the whole time.

i think that's the reason anyway.

That could be true, but if I use the quote button you can't go back and edit it out of my post. Plus there is a date/time stamp on edits. I does makes sense though.

it's true that there is a date/time stamp when someone edits, but once text is edited, it is lost on the server. no way to get it back. aka no way to prove what was said.

I thought the mods and Paul could get anything back even if it was edited by the original poster.

Even if the reason is to have evidence in a dispute, most likely the editing would be done relatively soon after a post b/c that's when the dispute would be happening. It's not like someone's going to start a dispute over something I wrote 6 months ago.
