We used a small Yamaha for three and a half years, now it's starting to crap out. We are looking for a durable, PA that sounds good in the $500-800 range. We use it mostly for vocals, a little drum support too. We play mostly small venues but occasionally the larger gigs too. I'm thinking Yamaha again, because we put our current one through hell and it still works okay. What do you use? What do you reccommend?

Time to replace the PA, what do you reccommend?

Do you need just the mixer or do you also need speakers? You are not going to find anything for $500.00-800.00 that sounds good IMO.
Yeah, speakers ware out. Get new speakers( the actual drivers) not new boxes. Maybe new horns. Probably not worth reconing, or getting new diaphrams, as the labor is going to make it more or less a wash. If they "worked" well, then they can probably work well again. That's what I would do 
O, my bad, yes, get a new yamaha powered mixer then. Best suited for your speakers.
I think the Yamaha powered mixers, and club series speakers, are the best value out there. I can't imagine what you did to it to kill all the channels. Beer spillage?
Hmmmm.... Well..... If it's worked for you this long, have you tried having a tech look at it?

Stick w/ what you like and can afford.

2 double 15 mains JBL
3 12" monitors JBL
1 15" monitor Off brand import.
12 channel Snake
Who know how many speak on and lo Z cables.
Allen and Heath 12 channel board.
That cost a bit more than $800

I think we will have a tech take a look at it. It's been pretty good to us so far. I don't think we ever spilled beer on it, it did rumble off of a shelf one time. It fell about four feet, crashed on the ground and continued to work. I'm not sure how we fried the channel.
We played through a Mackie on Saturday, it sounded very nice and the owner said it has been a reliable piece.

Mackie powered stuff can be good... or not so. I would avoid it ... Mackie repair is iffy these days. I've had older Makcie mixers from the VLZ days that were great. It's the lower end stuff I would avoid. That includes the 808...
I've had really good serivce form a used Yamaha EMX5000/12 I bought from the GFS here a few years back. I would look for one of those used. One recently went on the local CL for $300 - I thought about it but I can't see needing a spare any time soon...
