Double Bass Tiplop Double Bass Strings

Does anyone know whether Tiplop double bass gut strings are any good. They are inexpensive enough for me. I have small hands and need "soft" strings for my double bass. PS: I am not a pro, just a guy that loves the sound of D Bass.

I've noticed them on ebay but have never tried them or come across anyone who has.
They are cheap and probably worth a try but from experience, you generally get what you pay for with hand made gut strings. Possibly the G may work. Let us know if you try them

I know people who bought them, and they weren't pleased. You'll probably have to sand them carefully to bring them into round and oil them to make them more supple, but being beef gut they probably won't play or sound like sheep gut.

If I wasn't the son of a biochemist and a neuroscientist, I'd be disturbed that I know so much about entrails.

My Tiplop guts arrived Friday evening via registered mail (which means they are still at the Post Office and I haven't been able to pick them up yet).

My plan is to go the Post Office on Monday and then go straight to KC Strings and have them installed. I'm going to have the luthier use his calipers to make sure the guts are the diameters listed in the auction. I'm also going to get his opinion, as well as an upright bass player at the shop, as to their quality. I'll be sure to share all of this here in the forum.

If these blow I'll get a refund and then just save up for a nice set of Lenzner guts or something :bassist:

BTW has anyone noticed that the stock pic of the gut set on the Tiplop site looks almost EXACTLY like the one on the Upton site? :eyebrow:

I too bought a set of G and D strings off eBay. I just got mine and haven't put them on yet. It seems the gauges are pretty light. I wish I had bought the A, D, G set so I could put the A and D on to use for the D and G. I think I'll put the D on to replace my G and try it out this week. I'll report back.

This is just to correct some misunderstanding.
