Jay VandeKopple, David Gage and I met this past week on the subject of the 2014 Oberlin Bass Workshop. The dates are June 8-14. Dr. VandeKopple has informed me that the website is currently active and that applications are already being reviewed. Previous attendees are given first consideration, and we anticipate several openings for new folks. We are expecting to have the attendance more or less finalized by early Spring 2014. Unfortunately, David Gage recently informed us that he is over-committed to business projects and will not be joining us in Oberlin this June. Fortunately, William Lakeberg has agreed to join the faculty. Bill is a highly-skilled, formally trained maker of all violin-family instruments, who specializes in Bass making and repair with the Cincinnati Bass Cellar. He is a recipient of the extremely rare Violin Society of America Gold Medal for Bass. I personally am very excited to be working alongside this super-knowledgeable yet plain-spoken colleague.
