This bass sold for my $1,095 asking price on Reverb.
Very nice Growler 5. Made in Nashville, TN. This is a great example of the Gibson/Tobias early collaboration which included input from Bill Bartolini.
The condition of this 24 year old bass is quite good with only minor signs of player wear. The most notable issues are small chip on the headstock that has been touched up and a screw hole on the edge of the body near the bridge where the strap button was relocated and centered but now exists in it's original factory offset position.
The neck is straight and is set up for low action. The hand rubbed oil finish still looks great with only minor discoloration on the back of the neck. The hardware is all fully functional and the frets do not have any notable wear. The bass weighs in at under 9 lbs and balances very well on a strap.

• Custom Bartolini dual channel 18v preamp and Bartolini quad-coil MM style pickup
• Swamp ash body
• 24 fret 3 piece bolt on maple neck with purple heart stringer
• Pau ferro fretboard with 15" radius
• 34 inch scale
• 18.42 mm string spacing at the bridge
• Asymmetrical neck profile
• Orginal black hardware, solid brass bridge and Grover tuning machines
This particular bass is a first-run Gibson/Tobias, when the Nashville Shop, Michael Tobias and Bill Bartolini had a very enthusiastic outlook on this model and the whole collaboration. The quality and attention to detail really shows in the aesthetics and playability.
This bass has a feature unique to these early models, the volume is a push/pull which switches the bass to a stereo mode that can be used to split the neck and bridge coils to separate outputs using a compatible TRS instrument cable.
The quad-coil pickup is basically split into two separate humbuckers within the same housing. Each half has it's own separate preamp "channel" with tone shaping switch (AKA the Slap Switch).
Here are the controls:
• Neck volume
• Bridge volume - pull for stereo out
• Neck bass/treble stack variable boost/cut
• Bridge bass/treble stack variable boost/cut
• Neck three position tone shape switch mid boost/flat/bass & treble boost
• Bridge three position tone shape switch mid boost/flat/bass & treble boost
• TRS 1/4" stereo output jack
Comes with a reasonably nice gig bag.
