A few months ago, I found a Toby 5 in a pawn shop. It's a cheap bass, I know, but I like it. The electronics are not very high out-put and I would like to beef it up somehow. The pick-ups are not standard replacement part sized, so what can I do? New pick-ups? Install a pre-amp? Any ideas or suggestions from any one who has had this problem with any bass, please tell me how you solved it.

Just add a new pre-amp. The pickups are fine. Stick an Audere in there. I had one. While cheap, it was a well made instrument and lasted me 8 years, with not a single issue, before I sold it to fund other G.A.S. items.
