Tone Deaf lead singer with Axle Rose complex

As we investigate this whole thing a lot of interesting develoments came to light. When he sings by himself with no mic he seems to have an easier time hitting notes. So we came up with a couple of theorys. He must be hearing something that is throwing him off sometimes, so we are looking at our set up, monitor positioning that kind of thing, vocal effects also. We are also tunning our guitars off the same tuner and I am getting my bass calibrated, maybe he is keying off an instument and we are slighly out of tune with eachother. These little things will only help. And we have our friend coming over this weekend to help in this process and do a real vocal practice with him. Now all we have to do is get him to hit the right notes consistantly.I will update our progress.
If'n he stays... get him some in ear monitors! Maybe the fight to be heard over the band is doing it?
Those little Flea monitors (6" driver) that attach to your mic stand are brilliant too (and relatively cheap).
We had a vocal practice, nothing fancy just making sure he is hitting the correct note which he has started to. As far as backups we are keeping it simple adding a high or low part or both mainly during the chorus of songs trying to create simple chords and harmonys. So far so good, we have another vocal practice this weekend.
