Double Bass Tonedexter 2 and Stat B

So if you’re getting nice wavemaps with Stat B, why not just use those on the gig and leave the mic at home? As you say, one less box to carry!
He needs to power the Stat-B, not the mic from the Tone Dexter, otherwise the additional box is the Stat-B power adapter.

Unfortunately I don‘t know enough about the Tone Dexter and Stat-B signals (i.e. like common power and signal or separate) to decide if a simple tip-ring swap adapter would do the job. I have neither of both.

I would also be mindful of the input inpedance of the aux input. Aux is usually line level also. I think you should just use the preamp. There is why I stick to EBD2. Supports both ring and tip power delivery
The In and Aux/stereo are instrument level, and are 1M or 10M, which does not matter anyway because the Stat is not a piezo.

Schertler is who you should ask IMHO. The Schertler website says the Stat B operates on 3-10VDC, so it should work, assuming the current is very low. I think a polarity reverse will be fine, although it's probably a really good idea to avoid hot patching the pickup.

I do think it would be marginally better to get an adapter with the correct plugs on both sides of the cable, rather than adding an additional adapter inline with the factory cable.

If the plugs actually have + voltage on the barrel, care must be taken to avoid shorting the barrel against metal surfaces that could present a ground. Better yet, IMHO insulate the barrel.

Aux ins are usually line level and those are low input impedances, that is why I asked. ToneDexter manual says 1M -- so typical Hi-Z. Electrostatic mics are actually low impedance 600 ohms and the preamp is what brings it to Hi-Z level. When I talked to Schertler, the only pre-amps they recommended other than that little box , that supplied power is their own preamps and Headway. Batteries are cheap and between my gigging and practicing amplified, it can last over a year -- I actually got to 2 years and I changed it . These days I mostly use it with the Headway but I need to boost the gain more than the FC

Another thing to consider. The cable from the Stat-B is an RCA to TS and he recommends a TRS that is flipped. I would ask ToneDexter, how to wire it. I would not sacrifice the cable that came with the Stat-B. Get a nicer cable as well because when I lost my FC cable, I just got something from Amazon and it was a noise nightmare. I do not know of a built RCA to TRS and not shore if it is a good idea to put power on the shield of a regular TS instrument cable.


Maybe you are better off with a TRS to 2 TS female . Test were the power comes by inserting regular TS and the one where it is at the tip is the one you should plug the Sta-B


I still think you should just bring the stat-b preamp all along

The Stat-B tech sheet says output impedance is 1.6k and sensitivity is -25dBu. AFAIK this should work with a High-Z instrument level input.
No, plugging the stat B direct to an amp or a console will not work, even if you crank the gain. If I remember it was very faint if that, It certainly was over powered by the gain noise. They are my main pickups on my 2 basses so I should know

You need that preamp or something like a Headway or Schertler or maybe an AER.

Considering the cost of that pickup, I will not dick with anything else that is NOT supported or recommended by Schertler.
 
If one side is an RCA, signal and power share the same line as the RCA only has hot and shield.

The signal is coupled in and out by capacitors on both sides and the power is inserted and taken out via resistors (and a capacitor behind the pickup side capacitor).
That basically means that a short time short-circuit at the connectors won’t harm anything. The current during a short is limited by the resistor that inserts the power.
