Tony Franklin Fretless - Which Color?

Good call. I mocked up a standard P with LPB and this color guard. Pretty sweet.

Anyone know if you can use the mod tool to make a fretless and colored headstock?

Aftermarket pickguards aren't expensive, and changing the pickguard is not hard- it's a handful of screws.

The moto looks good, but I'd still go with vintage white or parchment.

When black and sunburst were the only options, I had no desire for one.

I didn’t intend to get a LPB when I heard the rumors... then I saw one...

It’s one of the finest basses I have ever held, and worth every penny.

the stock pickguard was pretty fugly though...

My two favorite P’s... no J’s allowed...

I love the LPB one. I can't imagine there would be that many used though, since it's new from NAMM this year.

Thinking of getting a used Tony Franklin fretless.

I have a black J American fretted with a black pickguard and a cream vintage P already, but I did the Tony black and lake placid blue basses more than the sunburst.

Which color would you choose if you had my black and cream basses?

Color? Cant answer a more personal taste type question?
Get the freakin color you want.

Color means nothing to me. I buy a bass bassed on feel and tone. No 2 basses alike.

Tony Franklin was huge to me. The first time I saw him play? Was a black fretless P. So, to honor him, if I were to go back to 4 string, the black would be my choice.

But I recently saw his LPB bass. That color has called to me for decades. I love the matching pickguard, "blue abalone"? Smokin! But I'd have a parchment guard around, too.

For the record, the TF P is the only bass on the market today that I desire enuff to return to a 4. It'll happen. If they made a 5? It already would have. But I can't swing it. Yet. I tend to pick the least popular aesthetic option when choosing basses. So, tho I love the Blue? Black it is.

Sunburst with black pick guard would be my choice. Its a GREAT bass in any color.

Mine arrived 4 days ago! I have played it everyday since. Love that thing!!!! Nicest bass Fender makes IMHO. The fretboard is superb, the attention to detail is what you would expect from a USA Fender. The case and quality is second to none. I haven't played it through an amp yet, but will today. Gonna be a keeper for sure

yep, prob too new a model to have any show up used yet, good luck, i too am drooling over the blue one. Just a heads up, zzsounds has them for 151 a month for 12 months, not bad if one can't pay up front

weird. I tried to put one in a cart at zzounds last week and it said it didn’t qualify for the payments. And I just finished paying off a Helix Floor with them at almost the same price with no payment issues last month.

I was told by another online retailer that Fender restricts what can be sold on a payment plan.


I’m waiting on delivery of a grail bass, and if it plays half as good as it does in my dreams, watch the classy fries....

The blue TF is gorgeous, but the sunburst is quite nice too. This is one I played at Bass Central.

The case and quality is second to none.

Love the bass, hate the case. I really wish they sold it with the molded case like the other basses they make in that price range. This case feels minimally protective and I don’t trust those kind of latches. I’ll be replacing it.

Black or sunburst. I’d probably go with sunburst as I have a black P now that I’m not thrilled with looks-wise, but the black-on-black look of the TF is cool, especially with the plain board. The sunburst is always classic though, and the first one I wanted, so...I’d be a bit torn, but probably sunburst. Actually, as either would be good and it’s an expensive bass, I could go for whichever came up used. Or maybe I should say "I can go for whichever comes up", as a Tony Franklin is on my watch list...

Meanwhile, the Lake Placid Blue isn’t doing anything for me, a situation exacerbated by the pickguard, which I actively don’t like. Maybe with a parchment pickguard though? But, to each his own. It would be boring if we all had the same bass.

Anyway, black on black is cool
