Too much oil on Pau Ferro?

This isn't, strictly speaking, for a bass but the question isn't bass specific so i figured there wouldn't be any harm posting this here....

I recently got a rather nice MIM strat with a Pau Ferro fretboard on it that seemed very dry to me. Looking it up, i found out that Pau Ferro isn't super porous, so i put some F-One oil on it, let it sit for a bit and then wiped it off a few times. There wasn't a huge difference when i was done so i just chalked it up to the wood type and moved on.

About a week later i noticed that some of the fret ends had dark spots in the wood. I don't know if they were there before or not, but my worry is that i used too much oil and it got down into the frets. Should i be worried about the wood becoming soft and the frets becoming loose? (It may be important to note that the neck/ fret sides are finished in something very light/ satiny whereas the top of the fretboard is not)

I never oil fretboards. I haven't in 50+ years. My advice is leave it alone and don't ever oil it again. Over time it will even out.

Don't let a FB marinate in the oil. It has a nasty habit of finding end grain and wicking up as you've witnessed firsthand. You should be okay.

If it's going to be harmful it's too late to worry about it now. If it was mine I'd play until it became an actual problem, and I've never put more oil on it unless it was absolutely necessary.

I oil my necks once a year but its very light and i buff it off so there is no residual.
It wouldn't harm you to put some elbow grease on the board to try and soak up the oil
