Tort: So Much About Nothing

I wanted to put a tort guard on my "Transparent Amber" Squier VM P. The one from Warmoth looked like it would fit (I printed out their guide and everything) so I ordered one. Turned out the neck pocket in the guard was like 1/4" too shallow, so nothing lined up. Ended up sending it back, my P still has a black guard, and I have a really bad attitude about Squier and Fender not having their carrots together about standardization.

I used to not like tort or 3TS anything! However, over the last few years both have grown on me so much that I would say tort is my favorite for nearly any color bass. It must have something to do with getting older.

Tort has its place, as can be attested by my sig. I see it used on colors I don't feel like it works well on... But to each their own. I also like a black pickguard, and the pearloids...

Actually, nothing against tort guards. I just prefer the pearloid ones personally.

It looks OK on white or natural finished basses, it looks awful on anything else. I am in constant amazement at the color basses in which people choose to use a tort pick guard. It usually looks like someone threw up on their bass

A Fender with Tort especially on a sunburst body makes me feel "young again". Need I explain?

no reason for a pickguard on a Bass.

No reason for any bass to be stained, natural is sufficient, or painted other than white.

I voted "Good but overused" because I like what it looks like on it's own, however I prefer basses without PGs.

imo it can look good depending. I don't personally care for it. I do like the white and black tort the most over the red. I guess I'm more modern.
