Totally irrelvant TBer info share thread

I know what you mean, chief.
Chief is a whole nother level of annoyance :rage:

It seems more equivalent to Boss though, than having that disingenuous ring of Buddy, Pal, etc.

The false greeting of How you doing? instead of just saying Hi used to really rub me the wrong way, as well ... if you're not somebody that really wants the truthful answer, don't bother greeting me with that :rollno:

I've used boss before, but only as a term of respect for my boss or the star of the show.

I used to answer How are you doing? with a detailed description of how I was doing. They stopped asking real quick.

I do that.
How's it going?
How are you doing?
These are not ways to say "Hi!", they are questions and as such need an answer. I keep it short then ask them,"How about yourself?" requiring them to answer me back.

I like the "fine, and you" loop.

How are you?
Fine and you?
Fine and you?

Rinse and repeat ;)

Totally unnecessary exchange that is often disingenuous, and could easily be shortened to:

Hello.
Hi (Greetings, Cheers, Aloha, Hola, Howdy - take your pick!)

If I ask somebody How are you? Or How you doing?, it's because I want to know the truth

Furthermore ... If you've ever been unlucky enough to greet a woman who just had a miscarriage, or somebody who just had a death in the close family in the above way, their answer may be to just burst out into tears! I'm sure only a minuscule percentage of the exchanges go that way, but it has happened.

It really bothered me when I was going thru a divorce myself, but now I just answer HYD? with Hi

Exactly this.
It is a question about an emotional or physical state at that time, and I only ask if I have time for an answer or care about the person I ask.

Just a few days ago a Man asked me Hows it going? and I answered "All is well today. How about yourself?" and he thought for a few seconds (this threw him off) then he went on about his back and other body issues. I listen, and then he starts telling about his Wife and her issues and she is going into surgery next week.

He was not prepared or expecting to go into this, but he did. Then started to apologize for going on, I said "It is ok, I aked." He thanked me for listening, I wish him well on these situations and we parted.

Always be ready for more than hi or do not ask a question. :)
