Toying with selling my vinyl collection

I almost never take the time to sit and listen to my records anymore and am considering selling them (~300 LPs and ~50 7" eps/singles). I had/have eclectic tastes and some of what I own is going for $200+ on discogs.com currently. Has anyone sold via Discogs or to a local store? Did you have sellers remorse? Does it seem like the market for vinyl is peaking to anyone else?

Where do you live? If you sell to a non-local store, there are shipping issues. If you do an all in one shot sale, expect to pay the ‘convenience tax’.

Call me cynical, but the popularity of vinyl boomed among hipster-millennial types about a decade + 1/2 ago. I wonder, as they get older, when they will get tired of lugging vinyl records and their taking up space?

Was perusing through mine and was gratified to see I had kept posters & stickers and mini-books that came with many of them.

Last record I bought was in the early 90’s.

I did the same. Held onto only a few, more for the album covers than the actual vinyl. My Tales From Topographic Oceans actually had a seed in the center crease. I left it there .

I sold my entire record collection when I renounced materialism in the wake of my 9/11 experience. I practically gave it all away. I sometimes regret it, but not as much as I regret giving away all of my related ephemera, like my flyer and zine collection. I am much more sentimental about punk rock ephemera than the vinyl itself. Too much bulk for me to deal with anymore.

Ive only used streaming for a long time. Mostly we listen to rock or electronica, neither of which benefits from truly audiophile quality. Im fine with either my mid level home audiio system or even better, studio cans.

Discogs is a fine place to sell records, and an even better place to find and buy them. I love my vinyl and I'm still adding to the pile. A vinyl side is just the right length of time to listen all the way through, then you can take a little break to flip the record, stretch, and settle in for the second side. But I'm an aging hipster, I guess.

I just got into vinyl (for the second time) a couple years ago! I’m toying with selling my DVD collection.

I sold about 300 LP's a couple years ago. I got $500 from the buyer and was happy with that amount.

I kept a couple complete catalogs from my favorite artists, but really haven't missed the rest.

Lugging vinyl is easier than lugging a couch, bed, tv…refrigerator, etcetera.

I like vinyl because it is real. A lot of people miss the point that we younger people are into it because we are forced into an increasingly non-tangible world, for the most part. It’s nice to hold the record, to see the art. Plus it sounds cool, and the system you can build around it is part of the fun. I restored a 1942 radio to play mine.
