Trace Elliot 1248 with half the treble

I just bought an used TE 1248 (4x12 NO horn). All four speakers play the bass frequencies just fine. But only the bottom two are playing up to the mid frequencies.

If i cut away all the bass and only boost treble on the amp, only the bottom two speakers plays and the top two are silent.

Is there maybe something wrong with the wiring in the cabinet?

I play through a Trace Elliot V-Type 300H.

Yes, something is wrong. Unless you yourself are qualified, which doesn't seem to be the case, take it in to a reputable repair shop. I wouldn't use it until it's fixed, could cause more damage.

Sure, but I still don't know how this would even happen.

If there's only regular wiring, how would the cabinet get a built in lo-pass filter on two of the speakers??

Have you looked inside and are sure there's no filtering and verified all 4 speakers are the same?

All speakers are the same. That I've checked. I haven't actually looked for custom built filters though.

Although I must say, the guy who sold it too me didn't mention anything about modification. (And I if it was, why would he? ) He did however give me three months of waranty.

It seemed that I was the first one, in the cabinets history, to have unscrewed the grille and speakers. Some parts were glued by the black paint on the front so...

I'm going to try it out in the rehearsal room tomorrow. And if it sounds fine, then I don't really care. I'm more concerned over breaking ether the cabinet or the amp due to failure of some sort.

and you should be. If only 2 of the 4 spkrs are connected, it changes the whole game, and could possibly cause more damage to the cab, or even your amp.

You sure they're all actually making bass or just sound bassy?

I think Rick's on to your problem. The two you say don't make treble are either blown or hopefully just disconnected, check the wiring and test the cab with a battery. Even if they're not working they'll still vibrate in sympathy with the two that are kinda like a passive radiator and make some sort of lowish frequency. You can check that stuff yourself but don't play it until you get that figured out.
