Trace Elliot 90's 1x15 Cabinets... 1153, 1518... and using both at the same time

Adviseable? Just added a 1518 to my Series 6 GP7 200W head and 1153 rig... As discussed in this - the 1518 is supposed to be not just heavier and bigger but also able to handle more power... think it's advisable to combine them as the two outputs to the gp7 head? is it a problem that one can handle more?

Here's what I remember of the specs on the head:

Series 6 GP7 (200W) head
from what I remember 200W RMS, text wiped off back over time
minimum 4 ohms impedance

1153:
Impedance: 8 ohms
Frequency Response: 32Hz - 5kHz.

1518:

Does anyone understand the difference between 1153 and 1153T and 1518 and 1518T and know which I have of each?

AFAIK, for most of TE's run the bass cab model numbers was broken down into three sections.

First section was two digits and designated the driver size. Second section was one digit and designated the number of drivers. The third section was also one digit and designated the impedance.

So 1518 would be an 8 ohm single 15, 1524 would be a 4 ohm dual 15, and 1048 would be an 8 ohm 410.

Additionally H would typically be added if the cab had a horn, for example 1048H.

There are off course some models that do not comply with this standard.

The power rating was normally had written on the back panel in sharpie...but the ink tends to fade. Different cabs with the same model number could have different power ratings.

The 1518 is also an 8 ohm 115 cab.

If you run both cabs in parallel the load will be 4 ohms and power handling will be 400W. Why? With equal impedance in parallel, the power is shared equally; so the total power is 2X the lowest power rating.

I disliked TE amps but heard a 15" combo that had the more expensive factory option of a EVM15L. It was much better and that's the driver I used in a 1152 - a wedge monitor, pictured below. The shape made it very easy to carry. I paired it with a EVM12S and the sound was excellent.

IMO the answer you want depends more on the driver, and whether they match than on the cab. Together you should be fine.

Yeah and the larger 300 so together 2 * the lesser is 400, and my gp7 head is 200W, so I'm fine to not blow drivers probably, but can anyone guess how much louder i will be with the 1518 added now, or how much louder-er i could get with a 300w or 400w head?
 
When you have matching cabs, theoretically you get +3dB in sensitivity each time you double the number of cabs. You also consider how much more power the amp makes at the lower impedance. If the power doubles it produces and additional +3dB change. So the total increase is 3 + 3 = 6dB.

Since your cabs don't match, you won't get the full +3dB in sensitivity. If the sensitivity rating of the two cabs are different enough, the sensitivity can even decrease.

The decibel change produced from the increasing the power is calculated using the following formula

[Log(P1/P2) x 10]

For example let's assume P1 = 200 and P2 = 100...in other words we are raising the power from 100W to 200W, which is doubling the power.

[Log(200/100) x 10] = 3.01dB

Anytime you double to power the formula simplifies to [Log(2) x 10] = 3.01dB

So if you increase the power from 200W to 400W the power change results in +3dB

Raising the power from 200W to 300W

[Log(300/200) x 10] = 1.76dB

Is you amp rated to put out 200 watts at a 4 or 8 ohm load? If it is rated at 200 watts at a 4 ohm load, each cab will get 100 watts. How much louder with be a Wasenex question.

Plug them both in and enjoy.
Use your ears to not cause damage as we do with all our rigs

Bet you will be happy with that stack

Don't worry...I'm sure the watts handling will be fine with the amps output.
You can probably go up to a 400 or 500 watt amp if you find you need more power over time

I would give a try with both. I used to have the 1518, and it was a wonderful sounding cabinet, albeit gigantic and heavy. I usually had it paired with a 410 powered by a 200 watt GP11 head and it was more than enough for almost everything I ever did.
