Does anyone have a success story in regards to replacing the blacklight on one of the 90's era Trace Elliot amps? I would imagine that it's commonplace for the light itself to have died after many years or is it likely the fixture itself? I have to opportunity to purchace an AH350SMX but the blacklight is not working. I understand that the blacklight has no affect on the amp's functionality but it would be more of a nostalgic kind of purchase and I would want the full effect!!! Thanks for any help!
I replaced mine a couple of months ago and bought a spare one as they are dirt cheap. These blacklight tubes are still being produced no problem. What you need is a 47cm, 15w blacklight tube. I ordered them for 6.99 euros each at Conrad (since I'm located in the Netherlands). http://www.conrad.nl/ce/nl/product/590411/Black-light-deco-verlichtingUV-buis
Contact British Audio Service in Nashville if you have any problem finding the bulb. They are quite common and a Google search and a YouTube search will yield bulb sources and video instructions on how to replace the tube in the amp case
British Audio Service are a great source, but quite pricey in some cases. The blacklight is a pretty standard issue one. I'm positive you will be able to purchase/order one from almost any electronics store.
You see how much better it is to start a new thread rather than forcing folk to read through pages of a years old one. I didn't clue in until we got to a post from PhychoBassGuy who hasn't posted in many years.
Just a note but there's a switch on one end of the black light fixture so it can be turned on or off. I've got an AH350SMX too and just love it.
