Trace Elliot RAH350SMX Information Needed

Hello! So on my local Craigslist, a Trace Elliot RAH350SMX hybrid bass head with a Korg DTR2 rackmount tuner and 1048 model 410 speakers popped up for $800. I sent the poster an email and he said he would sell it to me for $700! Only finding one review on it, which was very favorable, I haven't really found too much information about it. I suppose that is because Trace Elliot did not make too many of these and the one I am looking at was made in 1994. So what I would like to know is what experiences have you guys had with this amp or just any Trace Elliot amp in general! Also, what is a hybrid bass amp? A Google search reveals its solid state and tube but how can that be?

My buddy has one like this only in a 1x15 combo amp. I love borrowing it! Sometimes I tell him that it needs to be cleaned just so I can take it off his hands for a few days.

Um, why have you not acquired it yet? The head is tonefullylicious - and then you can turn up the tube blend to 100% and it just gets even better. Nevermind you have 350 Trace watts on tap, which is like having 700 normal ones.

So the solid state provides the tube to warm up? No standby? And I will search those up, thanks!

No it won't. When my church's Ampeg svt6-pro (1100 watts) fried I borrowed a friends AH250SMX to power four Hartke cabs. I don't think I turned it up past 1.25 on the knob, it was plenty loud with ample headroom. If the 410 isn't loud enough, add more speakers.

Clean the cobwebs out of the inside, clean/lube the pots and jacks if needed, then go play.

I would be way too scared to mess with the inside, having absolutely no amp repair expiereance or knowledge!

The tube is in the preamp section to warm up your sound. With a solid state power amp. That is the hybrid.

Download the pdf of the owners manual. That should explain plenty. I've seen this ad on Craigslist. The amp itself, minus the speakers is a great buy. (and rare to boot) The SMX series was the best TE came up with before they went to Peavy. As for being loud enough, I have three seperate TE rigs, the smallest being a BLX130SM powering a single 10" speaker and the largest being a GP12 SMX 300 watt 2x10 combo. Volume on any of my setups has never been an issue.

I just bought one of these a week ago. FULL OF DUST, but I blew it out with an air compressor, did a massive cleaning, and changed the tube. Fan is a bit loud and I'm going to replace it. It seems like it want to keep going though. I dig it!!!
