Trace Elliot ????

Downunder or anyone who can help got a question for you.

I know the EQ balance knob sets the pivot point at the center of the graphic about which the frequency response of the graphic can be swung. the thing is with the one I just got when I turn it all the way to the left(counter clockwise) I lose the sound, nothing.

When I go from flat and turn it to the right I can hear the high end and volume increase but when set flat I turn it to the left I don't hear the low end increase and I lose volume the more I turn it.turn it all the way and no sound.

So I'm wondering if that control is messed up not allowing me increase the bottom end and decrease the top end by turning it all the way to the left..Any thought's ??? Thanks Man
That's all messed up for sure. It sounds like it is losing the entire low pass signal, explains why you think it's lacking in lows.

Normally the signal is split high/low through the two compressors and recombined in the EQ balance control. The lows are being lost somewhere along the line.

Could be a simple loose wire or dud pot or crossover. Or the low compressor could be fubar, which would be bad as the chips that run them are supposedly sold out.

I attached the 250smx schematic to a post in the old team trace elliot thread. You'll need that if you take it to a tech, but I guess you'll get a refund.

Thanks Downunder. Yeah I knew something wasn't right with this amp from what I hear about them.. Lucky for me the guy I got it from is really cool and will take it back, it's just something I don't want to deal with right now...Thanks again Man...
