Hi Justin,
Big fan of you as a player and as a producer.
I have a couple of questions about production and, especially, tracking keyboards and synths.
I know you have a pretty amazing collection of outboard preamps and saturation devices, both rack gear and pedals.
- When you record synths or drum machines, do you usually run them through preamps (Neve, Helios, API, etc.) and commit some of that character while tracking, or do you tend to record them clean and decide later whether they need some color?
- When you record drum machines, do you usually run them through a compressor as well, or do you prefer to compress them after recording?
- And is there a particular preamp that you find works well with pretty much anything you throw at it?
Thanks, Justin!
