I've got a Jazz bass body that I'm going to make into a "tractor bass" It'll be setup with a Darkstar in the neck and the neck p/u moved directly in front of the bridge p/u. Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing? I'm looking for any suggestions or general words of wisdom. Thanks.

Do you have a Darkstar pickup in hand? If not good luck finding one. Fred H. has been MIA for a while from what I understand.
Uh oh. I didn't know he was MIA. I just emailed him yesterday and haven't gotten a response. For my sake I hope you're wrong.
You could PM SGD Lutherie, he makes custom pickups and it might be worth a shot to see if he can make something Darkstarish.
From what i have read here on TB from others looking to buy from him is that Fred has not been around for a while and isn't making pickups. Not sure what happened to him but I hope he is doing OK. Nice guy for sure.
EDIT: Good news - I heard through the Club Darkstar thread that Fred has resurfaced and is taking orders again. He makes them by hand so it may take a while but it's worth it.
