Apologies to other parties involved, nothing personal, but need some feedback from the group.

I came across a bass in the FS forums that I thought would nicely round out my MIJ family. I wasn't looking to buy, per se, but they don't come up often and I contacted the seller. Wasn't into a trade, but we settled on the price with shipping, and I set out to list one of my own basses to see if I could come up with the funds, rather than dip into more personal cash. Fortunately, I did find a willing buyer and transaction B covers transaction A.

Here's the thing... I don't want to have buyer B send me payment until I firm things up with seller A 100%. I tell seller A that I have a deal lined up, to send me his paypal and ask him when it would ship... at which point he responds that it's actually his producer's bass and that the producer is the one who will ship it, after I send the payment to the producer's gmail address.

If he had more feedback (has only 3) then I probably wouldn't worry too much, but I did ask him if I could speak with him or the producer to make sure everything is as it sounds. He called me himself, from a cel number, and was cool enough about things, explaining that he offered to list it on a bass site to help find a good buyer - but it still doesn't sit well with me that it's a 3rd person I'm not in communication with that I'm buying from.

So at this point I know his full name, his band's name, the recording studio's name (with no phone # listed on their website)... but haven't pulled the trigger as an email I sent to the studio/gmail has gone unanswered. I know musicians and producers can get busy or keep strange hours so an immediate response was unlikely anyways, but am I wrong to want *something* from the producer/studio confirming that this is a legit sale and that after I send him payment (over $500) that I'll actually receive the bass?

if you use paypal you will have best recourse should things go south

However, I will say that we don't allow people to sell items on behalf of other people on Talkbass for a couple of reasons. There's the commercial reasons, where it let's someone unfairly get the benefits of the site for free that other people pay for. But also, and just as importantly, there's this type of situation - if the transaction goes south we are much more restricted in terms of what we can do to help the situation.
