I'm a jazz student and have been really struggling with my soloing, I really need to transcribing more as a core part of my practice routine.

I'm after some suggestions of some easy jazz solo's to transcribe that aren't played on the bass.

I've done a few of the solo's off Kind of Blue and have just finished Chet Bakers version of Just Friends. so I'm looking for stuff in the same vein that sits on the bass reasonably well, any suggestions?

This is just my opinion. But soloing is more complex than transcribing. I think it would do you really good if you sat down with the music you want to sound like and just listen and play along. Soloing is improv and you can't improv as a bassist unless you have really good ears. So while your doing this you can do several things to help you get it quick. I simplify phrases while I'm playing along and it really helps me catch on quicker. Also playing in half time is really good. Kinda like how martial artist learn how to block slow punches. It allows you to react faster and really grow. By the way theres a really good video with Bill Evans showing you the way he simplifies things.

I like stealing ideas from guitarists, because a lot of their licks lay nicely on the bass and you can copy their articulations quite effectively. My personal favorite is George Benson.

Remember, you don't always have to copy the entire solo. It's very helpful to just steal a short lick here and there, and short ideas are also easier to integrate into your own solos.

I have found in my studies that this really is the best approach. Just find some licks that you really like in any solo and copy those. Its not like you are ever going to play the exact solo, unless its for a jury or something. So just steal the licks that stand out.
