How do You get around?

Why do you take the middle wheels out...It puts strain at that center point of those brackets and is slower than four would be.
It also wears the existing wheels and bearings prematurely...

Trek, nice. I have a friend that has a Trek road bike. I wouldn't mind having a Trek myself, but don't have the $1,000+ for a new one and I can't find any used ones around here locally.

There are some pretty affordable Treks - not all of them cost more than $1K. Look used, too. Mine is a few years old and I picked it up for $250.
