Traynor Cab Review

A while ago I posted my brand new setup, a GK1001RBII and a Traynor TC410 Cab rated at 800w at 8ohms, but never got time to write one. This is my first review so I hope I can write this up without embarrassing myself.

Anyway what im really trying to say is that this rig ROCKS. The head is beautiful, great sound, fantastic controls over said sound and its very versatile and quite light. The fan kind of comes on and off at weird times but I guess thats the standard for these heads from what ive read, doesnt seem to affect the performance and the fan is whisper quiet anyway. I wont spend much on the head since its been reviewed countless times by better people then me :D

The cab is a Traynor TC410 Bass cab rated at 800 watts at 8ohms and boy can you hear every watt of it, this baby is LOUD. It sounds very rich and full and I can get good bottom end from it, but a 115 might help because it can get a little muddy, but nothing I can really complain about for my first cab. Its listed as 90lbs but it feels quite light. I was able to grab both handles on the sides (feel like very sturdy handles) and lift the cab with the head on top off the ground with no problems. All sounds I dial in on the amp and bass come through quite clean, havent had any problems with sound being distorted or unclear besides whats mentioned above (Slightly muddy/unclear with bass all the way up). Brand new the cab was only $625 Canadian (which is par with American now but Canadian stores havent lowered their prices to be in line with America:mad: so you could probably find it in the States for cheaper new). GK Neo 212 sell new here for about that price and the used market is pretty slim. Turning the woofer up to not even full shakes my house and higher treble sounds are razor sharp. I havent used this in a gig setting yet so I cant comment on its performance in a band setting but im sure it will be able to hold its own and then some. I havent seen anyone else who has this cab on the board either.

Overall im having a lot of fun with it!

Great to hear your views. Have you tried the Traynor 400 watt 1x15 yet? I'd like to hear about that one too. It looks like Traynor is really making gear to compete with the big names.

Back in the late '70s I had a '60s Traynor YT-15 cabinet with EVM-15L speakers in it, that thing ROCKED. These days I have two '60s YS-15s with Eminence Delta Pros that ROCK! They sound great with every amp I've run them with. Currently that is a MB LM II and a WW Super. :hyper:

I realized you posted in my first post 62bass asking about the weight so i apologize for not getting this done sooner. :D
I have not tried the Traynor 115 as I havent seen any around here to try out, but a 115 would really round out the sound IMO. I really want to try my cab out in a place thats more open to see what I can do, right now its in my room which is quite small and everything in it rattles.

I recently played a Traynor fridge (8x10) side by side with an Ampeg 8x10. It was at a local L&M and we used a Mesa Titan V12 as well as a GK1001? (1000 and something!).

The Ampeg sounded much better, clearer and fuller with both amps.

If the Traynor was half the price, I might have been interested, but for the extra few hundred bucks (I think the Traynor was $899 and the Ampeg was $1199), the Ampeg was a no brainer..... if I was interested in breaking my back lugging around another 165lb monster!

I also recently was in the market for a new bass rig. I wanted to purchase the GK 212 and 112 NEO cab's. I had waited nearly 3 months and they continued to push the date of availability. My dealer mentioned the Traynor 115 and 210, so I thought I would try these. I am using a GK MB Fusion (500watts) amp. These cabs are awesome. They have plenty of bottom end, they are clean and they will make your ears bleed! AND...THEY WONT BREAK YOUR BACK!!!!! It is a great setup because you can split the gear if you want, using only one cab for very small intimate venues or use both for larger gigs. We play venues from a couple hundred people to as large as 5 or 6 thousand people, and the Traynor stuff has held up. Good stuff for the money, I would recommend you at least take a listen if you are in the market.
