Tis not a Slab body but contoured which would make it a 54-55?Slab body, tele style bridge and pup covers, plated controls. If 73nder it’s old!
Perhaps not a Precision but rather a Tele
the abuse and wear bring the story it’s history has to tell.

I've never understood why people put the bridge cover on wrong way around. There must be a reason. It can't be because it looks better that way, because it just looks goofy. Maybe that's the point? Here she isView attachment 5420001
Reversing the bridge cover allows the cover to still be used w/out the foam mute inside resting on the strings. It's a way to keep the cover from being lost and allows for reinstalling it back when you do want to use the foam mute.I've never understood why people put the bridge cover on wrong way around. You could just remove the foam. If you decide you want to use it again, glue it back in place.Reversing the bridge cover allows the cover to still be used w/out the foam mute inside resting on the strings. Great looking mid 50's Precision [not Telecaster] bass, OP! Leave that beauty as is.
It’s a scoop to direct the airstream into a compressed jet to combat neck dive. Not only does it look wrong, it creates excessive drag.![]()

You can do a lot of things. But the question asked was what could be a possible reason to reverse the cover. So that's why I answered. You could just remove the foam. If you decide you want to use it again, glue it back in place.
