Triplets in walking bass...

I play electric bass in a big band. It is quite a decent band and the band leader also appreciate my playing and swing feel. It is the guitar player always want me to do those di ka du dom and ghost notes to present the swing feel. I Sometimes so some skips and triplets but I guess he thought I did not frequent enough…He is, alot older than me so I didn’t say anything.

I like Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Charlie Haden etc and when I listen to them, they also do it once for a while, and not in every measures...

I too play electric bass in a big band. IMO you're correct in keeping that kind of stuff to a minimum. A little does a lot. The triplet thing works well before an important chord change or to move gracefully from upper to lower register. Ghost notes seem to work best between downbeats.

Let Ray Brown be your guide.
