Troubleshooting amp/cab

Hey guys.. Got my brand new crest pro lite today. I was stoked to finally plug my Verellen Meatsmoke preamp pedal up to my big cab, an Aguilar gs 412, and crank up. Prior, I had only been able to plug the meatsmoke into my tiny ampeg 8inch combo. I got everything plugged in and turned on and went to feel the rumble of that low E.. Nothing. I double checked all connections and settings, nothing. I'm getting a signal into the power amp, but absolutely zero sound. I switched out some cables and still nothing.

I have the settings in the back set to bridged and full range on both channels. The connections I have are as pictured.

The only thing I can think of is that something must be wrong inside the cab. It worked over the summer, but I had to store it in my shed until Friday, when I moved it inside. I live in Indiana, snow in the ground already.. Has the cold messed something up? Or maybe humidity from the last part of summer?

Many times bridged amps require different wiring on the cable. What does the manual say?

The manual is almost completely useless. Nothing indicates on it either way

Also, it's not that, because I even tried just plugging it in one channel stereo, didn't work.

Where are the attenuators set on the front of the Crest? Fully clockwise or counter-clockwise? Looks like you have the pre set for high output (correct) can't make out the switches on the back of the Crest.

I've messed with them high, low, medium.. No difference besides signal strength.

Time to disconnect the cab, use a 1/4" speaker cable and a 9 volt battery to see if the cab is working (should thump/click when battery connection is made and disconnected). If the cab checks out that way time to check the Speakon cable ends for proper tight wiring. If they look good pull the wire from one end and do the battery test again using the Speakon jack on the cab.

Never heard of or done the battery test! How exactly do I connect the batter with the 1/4"?

It's not the speakon cables, I switched them out thinking i had a short or something. It almost certainly is the cab.. Not sure what would have happened, though.

9 volt battery is easy to connect (quicky) the tip to one terminal and the sleeve to the other. Does not have to be a fresh battery, just have some life left to it. If the 1/4 works it could still be the Speakon connector on the cab so continue the checking.

That was amazing. It worked, got a thumpy staticky sound.

I have a speakon to 1/4" speaker cable I'm going to try to hook up now..

It's like magic.

Apparently the speakon connection is messed up on the cab, but my speakon to 1/4" works just fine. My rig has never sounded sweeter. As always, thanks for the swift and helpful advice, TB!

Awesome! Fix that connector in the cab though! 1/4" plugs and jacks are stretched to the limit at 300 watts RMS.
The sleeve is "hot" on the 1/4" when in bridged mode so not safe and the 1/4" can overheat as well. At least you know no major problems exist and what everything will sound like!

For bridged operation, you commonly need the amp end of the Speakon to be wired 1+/2+ and the speaker end 1+/1-.

The Crest has a dedicated bridge Speakon 1+,1-. You can also use a 1+,2+ on the channel A Speakon.
