Troubleshooting on a 3ways cab

Hello! Got for a decent price this 3ways bass cab. It has B&C speakers in it and a huge crossover. The mid doesn't work (tried with a 9v battery too - no sound).

The mid is a B&C 6PE13:

Woofer and tweeter work perfectly.
I've checked and it looks like that mid is very expensive (€75-90) and a bit hard to find: is there a good, cheaper alternative? What kind of test should I do on the crossover to find the problem? I'm pretty sure it won't be much complicated, probably the high-pass component is gone. Thanx in advance!

Hi.

You simply put a signal (noise) through the cross-over and follow the signal path.

Reverse-engineering or tracing the cross-over circuit, even without any component values, should give You (or us ;)) some idea about the most likely problem. Find out or measure the component values as well and You can make more educated guess about the replacement.

Without knowing the design parameters it's hard to predict what substitution mid would work adequately, I'd stick with the B&C.

Don't know why but the crossover started working after I removed it from its place... but this leaves me with the problem of the mid. Even if the coil wasn't burnt the suspension is gone.
It looks like the Eminence LA6CBMR is close for sensitivity and frequency response, it's my best bet for now. I think the mid is cut pretty high. I'll try to take a shot of the crossover ASAP.
The B&C really looks like an overkill given its widest frequency response. Perfect for a 15+6 but useless in a 15+6+1 since the highs are covered by the tweeter.
The price difference is about €50. The Eminence has more or less the same sensitivity but doesn't go as high... and it's not needed to since there's a tweeter in there. We'll see.

The Eminence looks like a suitable replacement looking at the freq response charts. However the B&C can take more power (before being displacement limited). The Eminence should be enough unless the woofer is a monster like Eminence 3015LF. Do you have any idea of the crossover points?

My guess would be that they're cut very high! The woofer is a 15" PW40 (1000w):

As you can see it runs straight to 1khz but it's not ultra-deep, and the enclosure isn't huge. I think it's cut at 800hz or even higher 'cause the mid really spits out only pretty high frequencies. I must admit they could have made it 2 way saving money and space. 15"+6.5" and no tweeter. With the Eminence the tweeter COULD be needed but at 5khz... don't know.

seems like the 605Nd handles the most power and the best sensitivity.

if your looking for a easy crossover replacement, might find something here.
otherwise it might be worth the time to design something and lower that crossover to 600 or 700hz, i can only assume it has a similar off the shelf crossover thats putting it too high at 800hz or above.

but this might help

But I have no experience, I'd need to have it done by a pro and if you buy the kit and pay a pro for the surgery you probably end up with the same amount of money spent? :smug:

Everything was fixed, I've found the driver in a store... expensive but worth every cent as now the cab is completely original and 100% working... thank you all!
