Troubling signs that I'm possibly developing carpal tunnel.

Based on your pictures, your position doesn't seem terrible. Keeping your wrists straight is a time-proven method of avoiding CTS type problems.

You have to take into account everything you do with your hands.. if you're using the computer for several hours a day (or any other repetitive task), that could be what's causing the problems, and switching to bass is what aggravates the situation.

When I took some training here at work to meet some safety requirements, one of their major points is it not only the activity in which you feel pain that causes damage.. it's the months or years of misuse that make you susceptible.

So while you're doing stretches and chomping down on your fruits and veggies, also pay attention to what your hands are doing over the course of a day. Could turn out that you'll discover what the source is. ;)
