I just went with a friend to pick up a guitar from a guy we found on Craig's List and when he played it we noticed how badly it needed a setup... We got home, and I rushed to give the guitar some loving for him. The first thing I usually do on my setups is adjust the trussrod... so I went at it... it feels like it can't be done When I tighten it, it feels like its not grabbing at all. I know the kind of work a broken trussrod entails and for a $400 guitar deal it really isnt worth the repair. The guitar is a 2003 Fender esquier GT (http://www.fender.com.au/electricguitars/may2003/images/Red_Esquire_GT.jpg) That being said.. could it be that this just has a truss rod that I'm not familiar with? maybe some weird single action thing... I'm not sure.. Anyone got any advice? Thanks in advance.
yeah, sounds like you have a stripped truss rod, stew mac has a truss rod savver kit, but its pretty expensive for a one time deal, unless you are a guy with a shop that does this alot
well I do this kind of stuff often but the way the neck is set up and sealed and finished were talking like $200+ worth or work... on a $400 guitar... eh... not really worth it... I'll have to check out that kit though. I didn't know they sold one. Anyone have any experience with it?
have a machinist cut a comparable die down to a standard bolt size head and thread it right on , it will cut it's own way onto the rod, and it will not strip and it will not crack but,..........if there's too much tension on the rod it may snap . been there and done it , I know it works ! good luck
i have a neck on a bass like that as well. U know wut i did? Ebay got a new one and I am happy now. works great.
