As far as your purchase goes, I think these basses are going to become rare soon because GC is heavily discounting them to get them off their shelves. Since GC is probably EBMM's biggest distributor, I would guess that they will discontinue them once GC clears them all out. This is sheer speculation and a guess on my part but it is no secret that the Bongo's which were once priced at $1,500+ are now going for as little as $800 brand new at GC stores.

If the bass has been in the store for awhile it more than likely needs new strings. This can make a world of difference in the way a bass sounds. I'm not a Bongo fan but I don't think you should write it off until you replace the strings and play it through a better amp.
