Yeah, i used a clamp mainly to get a more even/leveled press and not so much to force the bushings. They might have gone in place with just fingerforce too. Anyway, i'm sure it's a valid point to not use too much force, especially on these types of necks.

It seems you were misinformed. The specs for the bushings with model # 0051532049 states the outside diameter is 0.738" (~18.74mm), which indeed is too large.
The tuning machine set with model # 0036400049 has correct size bushings and will fit the (at least they fit mine) roasted maple jazz neck. Interestingly enough i couldn't find the specs for those at Fender's website, but these are what their support person told me would fit.
I understand this doesn't help you at this point, but i just thought i'd post anyway if someone else is searching for suitable tuning machines for that neck.

Your bass looks killer! Did you relic that over time or instantly? Hopefully that makes sense.
I will say that I do like these necks a lot, they bring a nice difference in feel and sound.

Thanks! It's a MIM RW body (2017/2018 i guess) that i bought unloaded and second hand, so it's a "factory relic". I gave the bridge and the knobs a bit of a scotch-brite "home relic" treatment and put in SD Antiquity 2 pickups along with the pickguard that was on my 1977 p-bass when i bought it some 20 years ago (that bass is an "over time relic" 
). The previous owner of the -77 told me it originally had a white pickguard, so i got a white replacement for that. Next i might show the tuning machines some of that scotch-brite too... I guess i'm not going to touch the neck though, even if it looks a bit too shiny and new compared to the body IMO.

I think the neck on yours almost looks that vintage brown color, I dig it.

Rehashing an old thread but I just bought a Fender Jazz roasted maple neck having the same issues and just came across this thread. For the hipshot ultralites, did you buy the mini clover or regular clover tuners? Someone here mentioned that the clover was hitting the headstock and looking at the hipshot measurements it appears to be very very close. I can't believe Fender wouldn't match the holes to the tuners they sell, this project just doubled in price and I'm considering to send the neck back before dropping $100 more on tuners.
I think mine were the HB6C Satin/Chrome 1/2" with regular clovers.
They are close but don't actually hit the headstock. From what I can see from the Hipshot drawings, the clearance is more or less the same for the mini clovers as the regulars. Quality wise, they feel much smoother and more precise than the standard Fender tuners and the reduction in weight is nice. The roasted maple neck is also very impressive and I'm glad I stuck with mine, even though it worked out more expensive than planned.

Thanks for that, I thought I replied earlier. I actually found the dimensions right after posting and I decided to buy the ultralites. The roasted neck is so much nicer than the stock neck I can't bring myself to send it back. Just got the tuners in the mail today and will install in the next couple days.

I just can’t believe that Fender doesn’t make tuners that will work with one of their necks. Totally blows me away. Anyway, I have been in contact with Fender regarding this issue and was instructed to bring it to a certified service center so they could assess the damage and contact Fender directly.
Did anybody else try contacting Fender? Am I wasting my time? I bought the neck and tuners from two separate vendors so I don’t think I’m out of luck with getting a replacement through them.

Damn, that sucks. I didn't try contacting fender. They're usually decent on warranty issues and the fact that nowhere that I could find stated that tuners from their fender neck I was replacing doesn't fit in the fender replacement. I even told my sweetwater engineer about it at the time and he couldn't believe it either. I'm happy with my hipshots however it was money I didn't expect to spend.
Hope fender makes good and everything turns out okay for you on this one.
We’ll see what happens. I dropped it off at the closest Authorized Service Center this past Friday and am waiting for a call back. He’s contacting his Fender rep to see what they can do. I was actually surprised at how friendly and sympathetic he was, so maybe he’ll do a good job of pleading my case to Fender.
Y'all just saved me from breaking my crazy neck. I had the c-clamp out and was putting the screws to it when my spidey sense said, "Self, something ain't right here. You better Google." I was probably seconds from disaster. Hipshot 1/2 clover are now on the way.
Squire JV neck that is just about worn out and I am finally replacing after over 30 years. I thought I would be bummed and nostalgic to have it be replaced, but this new neck looks sweet.

Glad you found this thread like I did. Remembering what I went through almost 2 years ago with that bass I stopped myself from making a huge mistake with a G&L I picked up a few months back. I couldn't get the bushing out of the neck to install a D-tuner and had the C clamp and hammer out. Then thought about my past experience and did some Goggling. It all of a sudden hit me to see if the hipshot would simply fit in the existing bushing and it did.Y'all just saved me from breaking my crazy neck.
