Hi everyone...

It's my first Post on the BG side of Talkbass!!!!!!

I just bought a Squier Bronco Bass Short Scale. I like the tone alot for the price i've paid.. This will sound great with my surf band!!!!!

The only thing that bugs me is the poor quality of the tuners..... Do someone know what Replacement tuner should I choose if I want to replace them and dont want to make big modification???

I'd agree those might be a better choice. I was lucky enough to locate a Bronco neck with the holes in the headstock drilled out and Hipshots installed. That's going on a Mustang body that's being painted now.

But, for those of us who lack woodworking skills and tools who don't want to randomly attack a headstock with a drill and muck it up beyond use I just offered up the Ping's as an option. In my search to buy them I heard both positive and negative reviews on them. But for $50 it was worth a shot and have worked well so far for me.

We now have Amazon in Poland so I'll take a look. The stock tuners are hard to get in tune but the they hold it fine.

Good luck, hope it works. My stock tuners didn't have an issue getting to tune, they just didn't like staying there. Especially on the A and E strings. I use light gauge flats.

Great info going to try and install the ping tuners on my Bronco curious what you ended up using original bushings or new bushings thanks

Since the new bushings fit I used those. I know they aren't expensive but still an improvement over the originals and so far have been reliable. Hard to find though, good luck in your search.

Thanks for the link, WI Shortscaler. Don't know about Amazon Poland, but Amazon France doesn't carry them, and Amazon USA won't ship here for some reason. Will have to have a friend in the US serve as a go-between. Or pay for some expensive work on a bass that, though modded in electronics, cost only 200€.

I'm still debating whether to make my Bronco usable or sell it.
If I keep I'll have some decent tuners installed, like Schallers or Gotohs. Those Pings are hard to find and probably a small improvement over the stock units. Might as well go whole hog and install good ones. I'd have a competent luthier do the work of course. I know I'd crack the headstock if I tried to do it myself.

The work itself isn't expensive, just a few holes. The tuners would set me back about 50 euros though and my Bronco just sounds bad. The E string has no power when unplugged and no power plugged in.

I used these from WD Music, actually got em via ebay, cheaper. Perfect fit, no drilliing needed.
The look just like the Ping tuners.
