Use tung oil on your furniture and French polish your instruments. A Tru-Oil finish would be my second choice. While I love satin finishes on prefinished necks, if I am doing it myself, I would always choose French polishing.
Warmoth recommends that you put a hard finish on all necks that are not quartersawn to prevent them from warping. That's for warranty purposes, though. If you are going to try it, an SX neck is probably the best one to do it to because you aren't out too much if it warps.
I'd recommend doing a grain fill with Tru Oil instead. It's a lot of work, but you can get a fast, dry-feeling neck that's actually sealed.
Hmmm...how about some links or places to get tru-oil!
I believe tru-oil is essentialy linseed with a hardening agent.
