Tuning machine ferrule problem

I bought a used Ashbory. The G string tuning post was loose.

I bought a new set of tuners from LargeSound.
The original ferrules were plastic, new are metal with a knurled pattern.

The E, A, and D all went in without an issue.

The G tuner mounting hole seems to be a bit ovoid, and there was some gray powder that came out of the drilled hole.
It almost looks like someone tried to shim the hole with white glue.
When I install the tuning head, the shim climbs up the tuning shaft.

Now, I know the proper way to fix this is to glue in a dowel and re-drill. I don't have the tooling to do that.
Does anyone know of a way to use glue as a shim?

Maybe Gorilla glue, or super glue?
I don't want to glue the ferrule into place, just reshape the hole enough to make the ferrule fit snug.

Gorilla MIGHT do it - but be careful as it expands a lot when it sets up and might go where you don't want it to.

Super Glue is somewhat over-touted I think for something such as this and may not be the best choice here.

I am thinking of JB Weld as a possibility though - it has the strength to hold and won't deform with pressing the ferrule back into it.

I'd make a small tube of wax paper on a drill bit of the right size to be just a little smaller than the hole itself (the dimension you need to close up) and after the JB set up, I'd just slowly run the correct drill for the size of the shaft + about .003" and be done with it.

I don't think it's a good idea to glue the ferrule in place, just reform the hole in which it sits.

Can you use paper as a shim instead of glue? I would avoid re drilling existing holes. It is too easy to crack a headstock. Use a reamer instead.

I've tightened up tuner holes with CA. I was using the semi-thickset type. On my build thread in the last few pics you can see the white CA in the holes, from wetting it with water to speed the set.

So I used super glue.
A drop or 2 on the side of the hole, let it set thoroughly.

Ferrule is tight!
