Thanks for asking. Sorry I didn't see this sooner. The new layout has me twirled around and not keeping up on my threads like the old layout.
It has a humbucker sound to it. Big bottom. Slightly rolled off top. It is NOT hifi. Think the opposite of EMG sound. Frankly, to me, it sounds like a really good P pickup. I had the Fender 62 P for a long time and the tones are pretty much the same. The knock on the TV Jones is the output is lower so I had to push my preamp up one notch to get parity. The tone solo noodling in the living room is ayte. But when you are in the mix it shines. So yeah, just like a good pbass pickup. Hard to A/B with the Squier Cabronita, but the few minutes I had on the Squier this pickup has waaaay more range on top. The Squier was too thumpy for me, but it could have just been the GC setup and Ampeg combo I was going through.
The only reason I'm moving this is that my ADD kicked in and I'm shelving my Cab build for a bit to focus on my J bass build and need money to get me an EMG jazz set and preamp. I need hifi sound now and I can go back and finish my old school Cabronita build later.
