Tweeter Control: Maintenance?

I occasionally get some intermittant distortion in a tweeter after the cab has been sitting unused for some time. Twisting the tweeter control back and forth a few times seems to clear it up.

Is is possible that this control could benefit from some contact cleaner/lubricant? Any recommendations for a technique to do this safely?

Wirewound pots don't need cleaning like amp pots do, just rotate it periodically.
