Two essential effects for modern tones?

FWIW, I had a nice phaser for a while that I ended up never using, because it just never seemed to fit in and kind of either got lost in the mix, or worse, got ME lost in the mix. I have been experimenting with Flanger in the places I had tried the phaser with much better results so far.

If it matters, I'm talking about a Small Stone Phaser and a Boss BF-2B Bass Flanger. in my case...

Oh, and since you're not 100% on what type of grind you're looking for (though I still the Agro is a great solution for you) a Digitech Bad Monkey is a great pedal that you can usually find used for about $30. That's a great place to start.

I agree, the Aguilar Agro sounds very modern and would be my suggestion, too.
