Two outputs question.

I recently got a Hartke LH500 head and a Hartke HX410 cab. The head is gives out 500W at 4 Ohms and 350W at 8 Ohms. The cab handles 1000W at 8 Ohms. The head has two outputs, each labeled 8 Ohms. The cab has two inputs, though I know that you'd use the other one to chain another speaker like so.

Is the other output on the head meant to go to another speaker? In that case what would be the difference between doing that and chaining the cabs?
 
Just out of curiosity, if I ran both 8 Ohm outputs into the one HX410 cab then would the impendance become 4 Ohms and therefore I'd get the whole 500W from the head into one cab instead of 350W?
 
The outputs from the head are parallel (unless you have a stereo head) so they are really the same signal and if you plug them both into the two inputs of a single cab, you are just doubling the current carrying capacity of the pair of wires. That's all.

That's not even necessary as the moment the current gets to the drivers, then you are sending that electricity down two tiny braided wires to the voice coils.

These braided wires are the true bottleneck for the overall capacity of the system.

Using parallel inputs won't gain you anything, but it MIGHT keep minuscule losses to a minimum: not that you'd likely every notice any signal degradation.

In a 4-driver cab, you might (just MIGHT) be able to do some 'creative' wiring and get to the lower impedance, but you'd lose something in the conversion - like lowering the total Wattage capacity in the original 410 arraingment by half or so.

You'd only have drivers paired up instead of operating as a fourplex.
