I've owned my ubass since around April. Love it and all that - but I'm starting to have a string issue.

The G, and probably the D soon as well are still stretching in. They are so many winds on the string post that the G no longer has a sharp enough angle over the nut. It's starting to buzz on open. I have no more room on the post to wind it below the nut level.

Have you guys had to unwind these and cut them down? I'm just curious if there are any tips or stuff I need to look out for. I've never dealt with this type of string before.

thanks

I unwound both the g and d strings, pulled them tighter and re-strung them with little problem. the stretched and thus thinner strings didn't want to stay in the slot in the machine head, but with a little bit of persistence I got them back on and now they've all stabilized, tune up fine and stay in tune pretty well. I'm thinking that when I put new strings on I'll stretch them as much as physically possible on the first installation, and then cut the excess off after it's tuned to pitch.
