Double Bass UK Music schools?

Hey Everyone,


This probably could be asked in the College thread, but I figured I'd de-rail it a bit.


Would any of you UK players/teachers/students mind giving me a heads up on a couple of schools across the pond?

I've heard back and been accepted at Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Northern College of Music, Trinity College of Music, and the Royal College of Music. Still waiting to hear back from the Royal Academy.

Any information about teachers, the orchestras, student life, life in london, et cetera would be nice

I know one of the teachers at the Royal College of Music. When I was in England, we went inside, and its beautiful (I know that wasn't the type of substantial information you were looking for, but hey, its information) One of the teachers is Caroline Emery. When I was auditioning for the Menuhin School, I stayed at her house and I also took a lesson from her. She's an amazing teacher and she's really nice. She's a good friend of Paul Ellison and Francois Rabbath. I'm not sure how familiar you are with it, but she teaches out of the Rabbath Method.

What school do you go to now?

I'm actually a senior in high school. I just graduated from a performing arts boarding school modeled after a conservatory.

I'm pretty familiar with the Rabbath method, and that's definitely the foundation of my technique and approach to the bass, so that comforts me a bit.

I almost studied with Professor Jiri Hudec in Manchester, i believe at the Royal College of Music. (maybe Caroline is also a teacher there still or once was). He is a Czech teacher, but i was highly recommended to him. look him up.

I'm studying at Royal Academy, i'm not sure whether it would be what you're looking for if you're keen to keep on with the Rabbath stuff BUT i'd recommend anyone to have lessons with Duncan McTier - he really does have something to teach to everyone.

The college has Neil Tarlton (principal, Philharmonia Orchestra) as well as Caroline. He's a great guy and obviously, a really experienced player.

Jiri Hudec comes highly recommended from everyone i've heard from who's studied with him (including Bozo Paradzik!)

I'm not sure whether that's helped or confused matters, but there we are.

Jiri Hudec in Manchester is a really good teacher !
as a student of prof. Bozo Paradzik i was lucky to get a lesson with Prof. Hudec and can tell you only positive things:)
Manchester is also cheaper to live then London:smug:
