Excellent, that should be fun. I keep on reading reviews on this pickup maker, he seems to be gaining popularity lately.
G&L MFD. Killer. Disclaimer: I'm a big G&L fan. I put one in my USA STD and it's just awesome. Whole different instrument. If you want really big, percussive fat sound, high output yet somehow still very balanced and nuanced, this is my pick. I love the stock Fender sound but this is the one that can 'out P a P.' It's different and very cool. You will NEVER be lost in the mix, but you won't be irritating either. It's really something.

Laurent, today I bought one each of Arcane Inc. 57 and 65 model P pickups. They just shipped, so look for at least one review of mine in a week or so.
Excellent! This builder has been the darling of hip bands in Los Angeles. I look forward to your comments, particularly with two different pickups you will be able to form a pretty good idea of how good these are. Have fun!

Doesn't BareKnuckle and Motor City make bass pups as well? I heard of all the mentioned brands but never tried them.
Having received my Mas Hino hand-built La Bella Olinto last weekend, I have to comment on the handwound pickup that Mas put in the bass. It's incredible. I'm fortunate to have two other Precisions with the American Vintage 63 and the EMG GZR pickups and this has the most "grind" and harmonic content (may not be the appropriate term) out of all three. The other two basses are strung with Fender 9050L flats and the Olinto with Deep Talkin Flats which is the most traditional sounding string of the two and still the La Bella pickup and bass just have this amazing wide and expansile tone. The tone isn't simple or refined and it sits extremely well in a band mix with excellent definition...

Congratulations on the new bass. I have not played these new Olinto but they are on my list. Mas is new to winding pickups but knowing his immense talent he probably does a fine job.
I noted Olinto use the Aguilar PJ pickup for their PJ bass which is a nice compliment to what Aguilar is doing. I am currently running their P and P hot pickups. Both are very nice pickups and I have been impressed by their quality.
How does the Olinto compares with the AVRI 63?

Offhand, without A/B'ing them directly, I'd say that the Olinto pickups are a hybrid of both the GZR and 63's. Has the booty and depth of the 63's w/ the growl and upper mid-accent of the GZRs. Again, I haven't restrung all three Precisions with the same string to compare "apples to apples" but they all sound different enough that am happy to have them all on the arsenal. The Olinto being my go-to simply because of the feel of the neck and the absolute joy it is to hold and play. Truly inspiring.
MY fav p pickup to date is a bill Lawrence p pickup. I liked the output and smoothness of the pickup, so hard to get now. is their a current production p bass pickup that sounds like a bill?
Sorry guys i guess this is not a Ultra boutique pickup. I have a stock 98 american ash p bass i was wanting to mess with. it sounds so good as is. Does fender not use good pu in american basses?

My strat and tele have Rio Grandes and they are great. I had one of their J pickups and a power bucket in a bass that I used to have, but I can't say
Much about the pickups because it was a weird bass (ultra heavy maple body fretless)
But if you had same player, same rug, same bass, you could at least get a relative sense if them
Maybe it's the autocorrect. Maybe I'm the dude. No tellinYes, the rug really brings the tone together.
In my experience if you go with a quality maker who hand winds their pickups, you probably can't go wrong. There is just so much more clarity and punch with good hand wound pickups.
